Karl Thompson was born in Birmingham into a family of 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Having been educated at Queensbridge
Comprehensive school in Kings Heath, Birmingham he left school with O-Levels in Maths and English, and a place at a local technical college in Hall Green.

The constraints of a large family meant that on leaving school Karl was compelled to find employment, which began in August 1984 at a Paper Company based in Dorridge, Solihull.

His passion for academic study did not diminish and by 1988 he had commenced a BTEC National in Business & Finance, studying part-time. Differences of opinion within the company he was working for presented the opportunity for Karl and a co-director of that firm to form their own business, which began trading in January 1990 as Major Paper Supplies Limited.

In October 1999 he joined and is currently working with a company based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. He continued to study part-time and went on to obtain a HNC in Business & Finance and A-level in Law. He has also obtained a degree in Law (LLB) and is currently working towards completing a honours degree at the UCE in Perry Barr, after which he wishes to go on and study Theology.

Karl was married in Montego Bay, Jamaica in 1999 to Sonia and has a daughter, Renee. He is currently an executive member of the Society of Black Lawyers (West Midlands Chapter).
